Looking Like Me
Looking Like Me
Written by Walter Dean Myer
2009
In this story, Jeremy talks about all of the things that he sees when he looks at himself in the mirror. He's not just a boy, but he's also a son, a friend, a writer. He celebrates whoever it is that he sees in the mirror and he owns it, he puts his fist out, says what he is, and BAM...fist bump! Jeremy is proud of everything that is unique about him, and he encourages that in others.
I absolutely LOVE this book and will be purchasing it very soon! This is the ultimate book on self-esteem and is appropriate for students of all ages. The text is very poetic and the illustrations were vibrant, adding a great deal to the story. As I read the book, I found myself tapping my foot to the beat as I read, and wishing there was music to go along with it.
