Actual Size presents the reader with facts, dimensions, and unique visual representations of different animals. The illustrations are done by using a variety of types and colors of paper. Many of the images in the book are shown at their actual size. Because of this, some pages feature only part of an animal such as a gorilla's hand or an African elephant's foot. For these pages, Jenkins has also included a scaled down illustration of the animal so that it can be viewed in its entirety. This book is an excellent way to incorporate literature into a math lesson involving measurement. The students can then apply what they've learned about measuring and measurement tools to create their own versions of the animals. Art techniques can be integrated into the project as well to teach the students about various materials, color, and line.
